How I wish I could reprint this article from Stanley Bing of Fortune magazine.  I can only link it though.  Hope you click on the article link from CNN…it’s a truly enjoyable read whether you’re a retiree or not.

Can you blame the guy?

Canadian-born John Roberts was CBS’ Chief White House correspondent for the last 6 years and anchored the Sunday edition of “CBS Evening News” for the last 10 years.  You would think that with local and national newscasts  trend of getting younger, John Roberts at 49 would be perfect to replace Dan Rather.  Yet  CBS opted to temporarily replace Rather with Bob Schieffer who’s turning 69 next month.  That wasn’t a bad idea since their ratings went up considerably since Schieffer took over.

From this exprerience alone, it seems the American public prefers newscasts coming from an older male, like Walter Cronkite.  So my question now is, why is CBS reportedly going after Katie Couric of NBC’s “Today Show”?  Katie Couric is a multi-awarded news anchor and reporter but will she be taken seriously as news anchor of a major network?
