Spouse and I have been married five years. How time goes so fast…it doesn’t feel like all those years have passed. Thankfully, Spouse feels the same way. If we had a chance to do things all over again, we probably would still be married today - seriously. From the very start, there was this easiness to our relationship which I’ve truly appreciated.
Our anniversary was a good excuse to get away and make plans for the next five years to come. We had this 5-year plan when we got married you see…that beautiful day in downtown Colorado Springs.
I do remember the day we got married. It was a vibrantly colorful day, just like most summer days in Colorado. We were in a rush to get the license, and make it for a lunch appointment with the judge my husband’s lawyer and good friend had arranged to marry us. My hands were dripping with sweat, which is something that’s never happened to me before or since. My poor sister who came from Rhode Island with her husband to witness our wedding had a sudden attack of high altitude sickness and could hardly breathe when we were rushing, with our wedding party of 4 behind us, from the County Clerk’s office to the County Court building. My sister Angelica cried as we were saying our vows…but I was very sure of myself…very sure of what I was doing.
Ohhhh, I’m getting all sentimental now. Five years since, and here we still are together. With all our differences, more than the average couple has to contend with I’d say, we’re still together.
This year, we hied off to the mountains of Central Colorado Rockies…it was so pretty there…just the perfect place to fall in love all over again. We got there after a lovely drive that took more hours than we planned because of a few stops through some of the best scenery in Colorado. We went through Manitou Springs, Woodland Park, Wilkerson Pass, South Park, Buena Vista, the Collegiate Peaks, Independence Pass, Twin Lakes, Aspen, Basalt and Carbondale…..a beautiful drive!

We had cookies waiting for us at the cabin in Avalanche Ranch. We had our tea then, as the sun was going down behind our little cabin. It cast a beautiful glow on the mountains that was our front porch view…a truly perfect way to start a vacation.

On the date of our anniversary, we even had champagne and chocolates waiting for us at the cabin after we came back from a walk. Celebrating an anniversary is good…celebrating each other for the persons you’ve become as a result of the relationship is even better.
We’re still corny, like my mom used to say we were before we were married…but we don’t mind being corny. I won’t even mind being cornier if we’ll be together in 50 years….

Happy anniversary to you and Stephen too! It’s coming up real soon. Gee, 6 years for you - where did the years go? Now let’s hope the Youngest Sister can be even happier than we are.
